Comments/review by AA:
The Dead burst into action with a bouncy "Music Never Stopped" including some very good Donna vocals. Then into a "Sugaree" with lots of interplay between Keith and Jerry, echoing some of the JGB versions. Several songs were then edited out, but I'm glad that "Lazy Lightning" and "Supplication" made it: the jam between the two songs lighlights the rhythmic complexities.

For me, the rest of the first disc is a disappointment. I don't really like the extended late-70s disco versions of "Dancing In The Street". And while "Slipknot" is well played, "Franklin's Tower" is marred by Keith's lack of variation, playing a similar riff again and again, which distracts from Jerry's solo.

The "Samson" at the start of disc 2 is lively, with the drummers in fine form. But the highlight is the soulful "Wharf Rat" followed by a segue into "Terrapin Station" that sounds so natural it always makes me smile with enjoyment. And the post-Terrapin jam in turn segues into a contemplative "Morning Dew"

It's this finishing sequence that makes me pick DP3 off the shelf more often than many others.
