Lyrics: Chuck Berry
Music: Chuck Berry
The Dead soundchecked a fragment of this on 12 December 1973 (but never played it at a show):
Thirty daysThe song was originally released by Chuck Berry as a single in 1955. It was recorded by Ronnie Hawkins in 1959 as "Forty Days", with the lyrics changed accordingly. It was covered under that title by Phil Lesh and the Terrapin Family Band in June 2013 (not to be confused with the Chris Robinson song Forty Days) and more recently in 2017 and 2019.
Thirty days
Thirty days
I'm gonna see that you'll be back home in thirty days
Gonna put across a charge agin' you
That'll be the very thing that'll send you
Gonna see that you'll be back home in thirty days
I'm gonna give you thirty days to get back home
I'm gonna call up the gypsy woman on the telephone
I'm gonna send out a world-wide hoodoo
That'll be the very thing that'll suit you
I'm gonna see that you'll be back home in thirty days
Oh thirty days (thirty days)
Oh thirty days (thirty days)
Oh thirty days
Baby I'll see that you'll be back home in thirty days
Well I'm gonna send out a world-wide hoodoo
That'll be the very thing that'll suit you
I'm gonna see that you'll be back home in thirty days
I've talked to the judge in private early this morning
I'm going to the sheriff's office to sign a warrant
I'm gonna put a false charge against you
That'll be the very thing that'll send you
I'm gonna see that you'll be back home in thirty days
Oh thirty days (thirty days)
Oh thirty days (thirty days)
Baby I'll see that you'll be back home in thirty days
I'm gonna put a false charge against you
That'll be the very thing that'll send you
I'm gonna see that you'll be back home in thirty days
If I don't get no satisfaction from the judge
I'm gonna take it to the FBI as a personal grudge
If they don't give me no consolation
I'm gonna take it to the United Nations
I'm gonna see that you'll be back home in thirty days
Oh thirty days (thirty days)
Oh thirty days (thirty days)
Baby I'll see that you'll be back home in thirty days
If they don't give me no consolation
I'm gonna take it to the United Nations
I'm gonna see that you'll be back home in thirty days
