You Win Again

Lyrics: Hank Williams
Music: Hank Williams

Played by Jerry Garcia with the Grateful Dead for a brief period in 1971-72, but then dropped. A JGB version was recorded in 1976 at the time of "Reflections" but never played live. Revived by The Dead with Bob Dylan in 2003.

The news is out, all over town
That you've been seen out running round
I know that I should leave but then (note 1)
I just can't go, Lord, you win again

This heart of mine could never see
What everybody knows but me
Just trusting you was my great sin
I just can't go, Lord, you win again

This heart of mine could never see
What everybody knows but me
Just trusting you was my great sin
I just can't go, Lord, you win again

This heart of mine could never see
What everybody knows but me
Just trusting you was my great sin
What can I do, Lord, you win again
What can I do, Lord, you win again
Notes
(1) in some early versions, Jerry sings the line "Just trusting you was my great sin" here.

The original Hank Williams version had the following additional verses:
I`m sorry for your victim now
`Cause soon his head, like mine, will bow
He`ll give his heart, but all in vain
And someday say you win again

You have no heart, you have no shame
You take true love, and give the blame
I guess that I should not complain
I love you still, you win again
