Coconut Kangaroo

Lyrics: Unknown
Music: Unknown

Played by the Healy-Treece Band in the early 1980s with Bill Kreutzmann on drums. It most commonly appears in setlists as "Coconut Kangaroo", but sometimes as "Coconut Monkey" or "Coconut Song". I have no idea of its origins - I can't find any trace of it being played by any other band and assume it's an original composition by one of the Healy-Trece Band.

Well sad, sad Sam sitting slowly in the sunlight sinking
Singing tie me kangaroo down I think I'll ride him this evening
You can hear them singing hey, hey, hey, hey
All day long they're singing hey, hey, hey, hey

Well down on the beach all the lovers their lovelight keeps on growing
And the love that they give me keeps the ocean tides a-flowing
You can hear them singing hey, hey, hey, hey
You can hear them singing hey, hey, hey, hey

Well down in the city all the folks they out every [evening]
Well the party that go on in the evening when the sun go down
You can hear them singing hey, hey, hey, hey
All the people singing hey, hey, hey, hey

Well sad, sad Sam sitting slowly in the sunlight sinking
Singing tie me kangaroo down I think I'll ride him this evening
You can hear them singing hey, hey, hey, hey
You can hear them singing hey, hey, hey, hey
All the people singing hey, hey, hey, hey
All day long they're singing hey, hey, hey, hey

All the lovers on the beach, their lovelight keeps on growing
And the love that they give me the ocean tides a-flowing
You can hear them singing hey, hey, hey, hey
All day long they're singing hey, hey, hey, hey
You can hear them singing hey, hey, hey, hey
You can hear them singing hey, hey, hey, hey
