Sons And Daughters

Lyrics: Jon Hendricks
Music: Jon Hendricks

This is the B-Side of the single Fire In The City, with the Grateful Dead backing Jon Hendricks. It was written as the title track for the documentary "Sons And Daughters" in 1966.

I have seen several references to the song having been written by Jon Hendricks himself, though I've not found definitive confirmation. Thanks to Eric Schwartz for the lyrics. He has an image of the 45 on his web site, but that doesn't reveal any information about who wrote it.

What's that noise outside your window?
Who's out there disturbing you?
These are your sons and daughters
Your sons and daughters
Your sons and daughters
And what about you?
Yes, what about you?

While your children march for freedom
What are you gonna do?
These are your sons and daughters
Your sons and daughters
Your sons and daughters
And what about you
Yes, what about you

They say its a wise child that knows its own father
Oh but let me tell you something wild
It's a much much wiser man by far
A father that knows his own child

They say a little child shall lead them
And today, today we know it's true
These are your sons and daughters
Your sons and daughters
Your sons and daughters
Your sons and daughters
Your sons and daughters
Your sons and daughters
Your sons and daughters
[etc and fade]
