Los Muertos

Lyrics: Unknown
Music: Unknown

A fragment sung by Robert Hunter in 1978, sometimes as part of Independence Day. "Flores para Los Muertos" means "Flowers for the Dead" and "Dia de los Muertos" ("Day of the Dead") is a traditional Mexican holiday.

Thanks to Jesse Jarnow for sending me a copy of a typescript of the lyrics to Franklin's Tower which includes a verse of this, though with the fourth line "And the faith to lay you down". The typescript has "los Muertes" and that's what Hunter sings, though "Los Muertos" is the normal spelling.

Flores para Los Muertes
A lighthouse for the sailor
A lamp to light your way there
And the heart to lay you down
Flores para Los Muertes

Flores para Los Muertes
A lighthouse for the sailor
A lamp to light your way there
And the flame to lay you down
Flores para Los Muertes
