Lyrics: Robert Hunter? and ??
Music: Robert Hunter? and ??
Written for the soundtrack of the never-completed movie
"Armageddon Rag", based on the George R R Martin novel. I'm not sure who wrote this song: some bits sound as if they could
be by Robert Hunter, who wrote a number of other songs for the film.
It was recorded by a band called (for the movie) The Nazgûl, comprising Robert
Hunter, John Cipollina, Merl
Saunders, Tony Saunders and Gaylord Birch, along with
Armageddon Rag and
Resurrection Rag. The song "Raise Your Arms, Clap Your Hands" doesn't appear in
the George R R Martin novel.
In the version mixed for the movie, it was introduced, to the background of a
screaming crowd:
Ladies and gentlemen, once in America, a battle raged for the heads and hearts of a generation. You are that generation. Here are your warriors. For the first time in thirteen years, spread your blackened wings and fly - with The Nazgûl.Lyrics, as best I can make them out:
One, two, three, four
Hold it rock, sweet little roll
You can't push [God's ain't cold]
Clap your hands till they bleed
Peace, love is all we need
One two
Raise your arms, clap your hands
That makes you a part of the plan
Gonna spread our great black pair of wings
Fly now, all over this land
The closer we come, the further we get
Still out run, get there yet
The more we sound, the less we fight
Gonna shoot out front, rock all night
One, two, three, four
The more we search, the less they hear
Rolls right out of the other ear
Here's the [trope] that keeps them coming
The more we rock, the less they rule
One, two, three, four
Raise your arms, clap your hands
That makes you a part of the plan
Gonna spread our great black pair of wings
Fly now, all over this land
Hold it once, we recall
Electric music for the soul
Just one way to do it round
Play it long, play it loud
One, two, three, four
Raise your arms, clap your hands
That makes you a part of the plan
Gonna spread our great black pair of wings
Fly now, all over this land
All over this land
All over this land
All over this land
All over this land
