What Goes Around

Lyrics: Mac Rebennack (Dr John)
Music: Mac Rebennack (Dr John)

Recorded by Jerry Garcia for his 1974 album "Compliments Of" but seemingly never played live.

Remember way back when
You had a yen
To mess over your old friend
You know, you dragged me to your heart
With your smile and grin
Youll never get a chance like that
To pull that old stuff again

What goes around, comes around
What goes around, comes around
And the way it goes up
Thats the way it goes down

Now, I done got over
It wont bother me no more
And the way that I met you
Ill meet a million more
Im so glad, the way I feel
Youve come out on the short end
Of a dirty, dirty deal

You keeping an eye peeled
Over your shoulder
Lifes not getting any younger
Its gettin older and older
You keep trying
To be a little bolder
You know, life might sometimes treat you
Just a little colder and colder

What goes around, comes around
What goes around, comes around
What goes around, comes around
What goes around, comes around
[etc]

Note
The song Jerry sings is from a 1970 Dr John album called "Remedies". Dr John later rewrote the song, retitling it "What Comes Around (Goes Around)" and released it on his 1974 album "Desitively Bonaroo". The latter version has been included on several compilations.
